Medal HangerThis is it! The fifth medal in the Game of Thrones set. When it arrives, I’ll be able to fill my hanger with all five of these and declare my victory. I put up a display rack in the exercise room so that I have a place to display all of these medals. It seemed a shame just to keep them in a drawer. Now when I feel the urge to give up on the treadmill or elliptical, I can look at the evidence of past work and maybe it will be a bit easier to keep going.

Power is everything in Westeros, and to claim The Iron Throne, you must prove your worth.  Made from thousands of surrendered swords, the Iron Throne is a symbol of unity and strength, yet also carries a curse due to the many bloody battles and betrayals that have taken place upon it. This virtual challenge will take me on an 132 kilometre (82 mile) journey from Winterfell to King’s Landing, following the iconic King’s Road.

I’ve owned a few swords in my time. A fencing foil, Sting, and a very ugly two-handed great sword. I find myself at a point in my life where I am once again swordless.  Maybe I should fix that with a replica of Michonne’s katana from The Walking Dead? Which reminds me of a quote from one of my favourite authors…

“Until a man is twenty-five, he still thinks, every so often, that under the right circumstances he could be the baddest motherfucker in the world.”
Neal Stephenson, Snow Crash

Under the right circumstances… hmmm…
